Welcome to Living Roots!
Post-hurricane news: San Javier Cultural Center is ready to reopen & Loreto Farmer's Market is back!
UPDATES (November 26, 2014)
Rebuilding of the Cultural Center
The season of giving thanks is upon us! With gratitude, Living Roots is pleased to announce that the San Javier Cultural Center is ready to reopen after the force of hurricane Odile took down two walls this September. With $2,000 raised since the hurricane, the walls are now temporarily patched up with petate (woven bamboo-like mats). The community plans to join hands again next summer (after tourist season) to rebuild a stronger, more resilient structure.
Your contribution will help transform temporary fixes into a more sustainable Center!
Loreto Farmers' and Artisans' Market
Harvest season will be later this year due to wet ground left by the heavy rains this summer and fall - the best produce this season can be expected around March or April. In the meantime, it is citrus season! The market will also have farm fresh eggs, goat cheese, handmade tortillas, wild oregano, and many other "interim" treats to tide you over until Spring.
